Simple Work Day Make Up Routine- Detailed picture demo

A Simple work makeup routine is an essential component of the upwardly mobile woman's wardrobe portraying her as confident and professional, in today's stiffly competitive work environment.

Wondering how you will get ready for work, negotiate traffic and still look nicely put together? This workday makeup routine would ensure you get to work on time and still look great and refreshed ready for the day.

Starting with a well cleansed face is important, obviously having the previous day’s mascara and liner form ringlets around your eyes just would not cut it. You can check out my previous post on makeup removal.

DEFINE BROWS

Define the eyebrows using a brown eye brow pencil, outline the brows and fill in with feathery strokes (ensure your pencil tip is well sharpened to achieve this).Brush through for a softer look. The shade of pencil used should be one shade lighter than your hair colour or at most same shade: not lighter, darker or black and certainly not wine! Check out my previous post demonstrating how to groom and define the brows.

APPLY EYESHADOW
Especially neutral colours that are easy to blend, this is not the place or time for a purple smokey eye! , Alert! Angry boss waiting! Lol. This would include browns, soft gold, and champagne.
For a soft neutral look, apply eyeshadow over entire lid then use a deeper brown in the crease, blend thoroughly for a diffused yet defined look to the eye.
Avoid eyeshadow with excessive shimmer, frosts, metallic finish... ahem.. Girl please put the glitter eyeliner away for now!
Apply a soft peach ( light brown, or any other light neutral shade, preferably matte, suitable for your skin tone) to highlight under the eyebrow, blending gently downwards and along the brow.

Apply a matte medium brown colour as a transition colour blending with the shade above it and into the crease. Here I used a blending brush to make the eyeshadow appear more of a wash giving a soft diffuse look.

Apply a bronze colour (with very minimal specks of shimmer) over the entire mobile lid patting down the colour and blending the edges into the medium brown colour using the blending brush.

APPLY PENCIL LINER
I recommend this over a liquid liner because it requires less precision and can be done in a hurry blend out for a soft look that also helps to deepen the look of the eyelashes (which is helpful at this point should you decide to skip mascara).
Apply black  or dark brown pencil liner over the top lash line as close to the roots as possible.

Mascara can be used at this stage-optional). sweep mascara from roots to tip of lashes wiggling from side to side as you go upwards, allow to dry before applying another coat if necessary.

POWDER APPLICATION
A light dusting of powder over well cleansed face would take excess shine off the face. However for more coverage, compacts like MAC studio fix or any good powder foundation would do the job in half the time of separate foundation and power application. If you need more coverage you can apply concealer around areas of hyperpigmentation, blemishes, dark under eye circles and dab lightly with your finger. Finish off by patting powder over the concealer to lock it in place.

Powder brushes give a lighter coverage with the powder while the powder puffs will give a more intense coverage as they would pack on more product so choose according to your preferences. For this post I applied powder only.

LIP PRODUCT
Nudes, browns, soft pinks, mauve, are great colours (wines, plums work well on very deep skin tones as well) you can skip the Ruby Red lipstick for your after-work party. Line lips with a brown lip liner or a darker shade of your lipstick to define the lips, blend inwards on the lips to create a gradient effect and pevent the "obvious lipliner" effect. Finish off your look with lipstick.
Application of a dot of lipgloss is optional (not a whole dollop! We don’t want every one concentrating on the baby doll pink lips instead of the spreadsheet before them).Pop it into your bag for touchups later in the day if necessary.

TIPS TO NOTE
  • ·         Don’t decide to try something new while rushing off to work- the results could be disastrous
  • ·         Ensure your brow is already previously groomed latest the day before. This is a process that requires a lot of patience.
  • ·         Avoid contouring or highlighting. The harsh lights of the work place may make the whole look seem off.
  • ·         Please use proper brushes for makeup application, not those “applicators” that come with these makeup palettes. Otherwise clean fingers would do (just don’t get a stain on your favourite office shirt!)

·         Depending on your skin tone you may choose to apply blush. Opt for neutral soft peach, soft pink, mauve coral toned blush (all matte)
with these tips well applied you are well on your way to a day of compliments at work and who knows? maybe a climb up the career ladder!
Cheers, till my next post,
Hadassah.
